Major Reform in Irish Immigration Registration

The Roadmap for Minimum Annual Remuneration Thresholds (MAR) set out a number of major adjuMinister for Justice Helen McEntee has announced that, as of January 13, 2025, immigration registration will be fully civilianised, with responsibilities transferring from An Garda Siochana to the Department of Justice’s Immigration Service Delivery (ISD). This change aims to streamline the registration process while allowing Garda to focus on enforcement duties.
Under the new system, first-time registrations will take place in person at Burgh Quay, Dublin, while renewals will continue via the online portal. Last year alone, over 310,000 applications were processed, highlighting the need for an efficient and dedicated service.
